The basic information includes the life cycle of honey bees, purchasing equipment and bees, management of bees from installation in the hive to preparing the colony to survive winter, and the control of common honey bee pests and diseases.

Class fees of $75/person, $100/family, and $50/youth will provide beginner beekeepers with the Beekeeping in Northern Climates manual, hand-outs, lunch and snacks, one year membership to the NWIABKA, one year membership to the Iowa Honey Producers Association, hive tool, Varroa mite testing kit, monthly Zoom meetings, and mentoring services.
