Northwest Iowa Beekeepers Association, USA

Hello Beekeepers,

During this first week of September marking a change in the seasons and the shift of our bee colonies from summer bees to winter bees. As caretakers of our bees we need to do all we can to assist our bees in this critical transition by controlling Varroa mites and strategic feeding. We discussed mite control and feeding during the Bee Smart Zoom meeting – Part 1: Preparing Colonies for Winter this past August 14th. What are your mite control and feeding for winter survival questions?

On the schedule is a Sept. 11 Level 1 class Zoom meeting. As in August the outreach of the Zoom meeting will be expanded to include the entire NWIABKA membership. Because the 11th is in the midst of the Clay County Fair (please recall the NWIABKA staff a booth at the Fair) the meeting is rescheduled for one week later on Sept. 18th. So, the next Bee Smart Zoom meeting – Part 2: Preparing Colonies for Winter will be Thursday, September 18th, 7:30-9:00 pm. The Zoom link will be emailed one week prior to the event.

In the meantime, if you have questions or concerns about the status of your bee colonies now is the time to ask so colony issues can be mitigated before winter kicks-in. You are invited to ask questions as part of this email thread or to reach-out individually to a member of the NWIABKA teaching team.
